CANEAST IMMIGRATION
Spousal Sponsorship Canada

Professional representation for inland and outland spousal sponsorships under Canada’s Family Class — bringing families together in Canada with trust and expertise.

What Is Spousal Sponsorship?
Canada’s Spousal Sponsorship Program allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner for permanent residence. It is one of the most common pathways under the Family Class category and is designed to help families reunite in Canada.
At Caneast Immigration, we prepare and manage sponsorship applications with accuracy and care, ensuring your file meets the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA), the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR), and current Program Delivery Instructions (PDIs).

To sponsor a spouse or partner, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be a Canadian citizen (residing in Canada or planning to return) or a permanent resident living in Canada.
- Not be in receipt of social assistance, except for disability benefits.
- Not be in default of a previous sponsorship undertaking, immigration loan, or court-ordered support.
- Not be inadmissible for criminal convictions, removal orders, or other immigration bans.
- If you were sponsored as a spouse/partner, you must wait five years from the date you became a permanent resident before sponsoring a new spouse or partner.
Who Can Be Sponsored?
Eligible sponsored persons include:
- Spouse: Legally married partner.
- Common-law partner: Cohabited in a conjugal relationship for at least 12 continuous months.
- Conjugal partner: A genuine relationship where the couple cannot live together due to barriers beyond their control (e.g., immigration restrictions).
Applicants must undergo medical, security, and background checks, and must demonstrate the relationship is genuine and not entered into primarily for immigration purposes.
Inland vs. Outland Sponsorship
Inland Sponsorship: The spouse or partner is already in Canada and may be eligible for an open work permit while the application is processed.
Outland Sponsorship: The spouse or partner is living outside Canada. This option can be faster in some regions and allows the applicant to travel in and out of Canada during processing.
